ITS Engineers believes that nurturing local talent is an important responsibility – which begins as early as supporting the education of children in the foundation phase. We recognise the need to provide access to tools that will support learners with the basic first steps of arithmetic, reading and writing.
In December 2015, we have donated 20 Edu-Boxes to the Early Childhood Development (ECD) centre in Fisantekraal. Fisantekraal is classified as one of the most vulnerable communities in the City of Cape Town. ECD centres are critical as they stimulate children in their formative years where the children develop not just physically, but also emotionally, intellectually and socially. Given this development, it is important that children are exposed to a high quality care environment and toys that will provide the appropriate stimulation.
One Edu-Box consists of 10 products aiming at the 4 to 8 year old learners. For example, the boxes include counting trays to develop numeracy skills and Stitch - a - Bead to assist in learning to identify the different shapes and develop three-dimensional form perception.
ITS Engineers is committed to provide consistent support to individuals and institutions in less fortunate communities that inspire and support a next generation of engineers. A number of outreach activities are scheduled for 2016 which will include job shadowing and provisioning of more educational toys. We are happy to be able to play a role in motivating and encouraging young people to pursue careers in science, technology, and engineering.
